D Batik

D-Batik is a digital batik motif development application designed to support batik artisans in creating repetitive and structured batik patterns more efficiently. The application integrates artificial intelligence technologies to assist users in composing and refining the visual elements of batik motifs, enabling a more systematic and flexible design process.

The use of D-Batik facilitates the production of diverse digital batik motif variations through a step-by-step workflow, beginning with feature familiarization and progressing toward the expression of creative ideas in digital form. The development time for digital motifs using D-Batik is relatively short: artisans typically require 1–5 minutes to produce simple motifs and up to 30 minutes for more complex designs. This efficiency significantly accelerates the motif creation process compared to conventional manual methods.

By adopting D-Batik, the batik production workflow becomes more dynamic and exploratory, allowing artisans greater creative freedom during the design phase. For batik artisans within the Semarang batik cluster, who have utilized the application over the past four years, D-Batik has been recognized as a valuable tool that supports the nyungging (motif sketching) stage of batik production. The selected digital motifs are subsequently transformed into physical batik textiles using traditional hand-drawn (tulis) and stamped (cap) techniques.

In addition, D-Batik features integration with 3D printing technology to produce plastic batik stamps. Although plastic stamps are less resistant to high temperatures compared to traditional copper stamps, they offer significant economic advantages, including lower production costs and rapid fabrication times—often completed within a matter of hours. This integration positions D-Batik as a hybrid digital–physical tool that bridges contemporary digital design practices with traditional batik craftsmanship.
